CableDB Frequently Asked Questions

1. How can I create a new cable configuration?
To create a new cable configuration, contact the Electronics Section who will take charge: electronics@rt.cells.es.

2. How can I modify the attributes of a cable?
The main cable attributes that users modify are the status, the length and the comments. All these attributes can be changed automatically via script: export a report in CSV format and modify the attributes you wish to change, send this file to MIS section (mis@rt.cells.es) and they will run the script. You can also modify the status and the length of cables manually through the web interface, provided you have the right application permissions.

3. How can I upload a batch of cables/equipment data ?
There are two ways to upload cables/equipment data:
   1. Manually via the web interface: you need the application permission, check with mis@rt.cells.es
   2. In batch of cable data updated in an excel file:
     -    From cableDB, generate a report with the data to be updated,
     -    Export the report in an excel file
     -    Update the data from excel application in the excel file,
     -    Save and send the file to to mis@rt.cells.es so they run the right set of automated scripts.

4. How can I delete cables?
You can delete cables via the web interface if you have the appropriate permissions AND if the cables are in Provisional Cable status.
However, you can ask to delete cables, regardless of their status, sending the cable IDs to the MIS section (mis@rt.cells.es).

5. How can I create a new equipment type?
To create a new equipment type or modify an existing one, contact the Electronics Section who will take charge: electronics@rt.cells.es..

6. How can I delete equipments?
You can delete equipments through the web interface if you have the appropriate permissions. Mind that when equipment is erased, the cables plugged in it are erased as well.

7. How can I get the information I need?
In the “Reports” tab of the web interface, select filtering options, such us cables, plugs, equipments, racks, configurations, families, etc. and filter by any location, system, etc. You can export the data to a CSV file or a PDF, clicking on respective different icons. To get all the database information without any filter, go to the “ALBAcodes” option.
