Motion Control – IcePAP

What is it?

IcePAP is a motor controller developed in collaboration with the ESRF and largely deployed in CELLS facility to control pumps, robots, etc. It is optimised for high resolution position applications. Emphasis has been put in covering most of the requirements found and foreseen for synchrotron radiation experiment beamlines.

An IcePAP system may drive up to 128 axes and packs closely linked both the control features, like trajectory generation, and the motor power driver. Although motor control in IcePAP is axis-oriented, dedicated system resources allow executing synchronous multi-axis movements. In addition, all the position information signals are driven through internal multiplexers and can be sent to external devices to synchronise data acquisition during the experiments.

Besides high performance, IcePAP is fully software configurable and provides exhaustive diagnostic capabilities. Most of the functionality relies on programmable components what opens the possibility of adding new features by means of firmware upgrade.
