Cabling

What is it?

CELLS ALBA facility’s cabling accounts for more than 167km of cabling, 16500 cables with more than 240 different types of cable configurations. The range of applications in which they are used is extremely wide: optical fibers for network communications or synchronization signals, high power cables for the different magnets, many kinds of coaxial or triaxial cables which includes radio frequency applications, standard multiwire or high voltage cables.

To install a new cable in the facility, we strictly follow the following  cabling procedure:

  1. Define the cable specifications
  2. Define the testing and acceptance method
  3. Insert a new cable entry in CableDB, our centralized cable database insertion.
  4. Assemble the cable (when applicable)
  5. Test a cable for each production batch against specification
  6. Install the cable.
  7. Label the cable
  8. Test the cable installation
  9. Operational test

In addition to the cables installed in the accelerator and beamlines, other groups in ALBA may use this service for their laboratories. We may provide support in defining specifications, assembling, installing, labelling and testing all kinds of cables needed in Alba.

For your convenience, the Electronics section holds an internal inventory of cables used in the facility plus some standard ones.
